Happy New Year, Everyone!✨ Today we read a statistic that less than 5% of people diagnosed with glioblastoma survive longer than 5 years post diagnosis. As we enter into 2023 we have high hopes and big dreams for Cancer Canknot in becoming a non-profit that can make a positive difference and improve that statistic by raising funds and awareness for better outcomes, and ultimately find a cure…we hope you come along for the ride - it’s gonna be a great one! 🤞#cancercanknot #glioblastoma [fun fact: this “New Year” themed Cancer Canknot ribbon/logo design was hand drawn by Eric]

Dear Eric - They say you should only look back to see how far you’ve come…and today, that’s exactly what we are going to do. Today, we look back and celebrate the past 11 years. It was 11 years ago today we were told by your neurosurgeon that you had glioblastoma; a prognosis that told us you had 11 months…not 11 years. Your stoic, quiet warrior ways allow people to see your journey as one of ease, however I am privileged to see all the hard work you put in on a daily basis; the warrior that works hard while also remaining optimistic. When we left the doctor’s office 11 years ago, my question was why you?…and your response was, why not me - it’s me because I can handle it. Well Eric, I’d say you’ve more than handled it. We love you. Thank you for making us all better people. 🤍 Love, Anna xoxo

Cancer is a connection no one wants to have, but many of us do. It’s a connection that some of us will have forever. It was in late 2016 when we saw Maria post a note on social media about her mom being diagnosed with glioblastoma, the same cancer as Eric. At that time, Eric was a 5 year survivor of brain cancer, so I replied to her post with some words of hope - not sure if she’d even see it. To my surprise she replied, and from there a connection was made. Shortly after we connected, Eric and I had the opportunity to meet her in person and go on her radio show to share more of Eric’s story. We were able to share the road we’d traveled up to that point and how we got there, with the hope of giving some inspiration to her listeners facing something similar. Over the years we’ve continued to follow her and her family’s journey with her mom’s brain cancer diagnosis; offering healing thoughts and well wishes from afar. And while cancer was our original connection, it was the Boston Celtics that recently brought us back together. When we first met Maria 5 years ago, Eric and her were able to talk about their joint love of the Celtics. As many of you know, Eric’s birthday present when he turned 30 (10 years ago) was a “bucket list” gift of sitting court side at a game. Fast forward 10 years later, rather than his 40th birthday present of sitting court side at a Celtics game being a bucket list gift, it was a gift of celebration - celebrating how far he’s come…and how far he still gets to go. While Erica and I didn’t sit court side with Eric and Bryce at the game - we were still able to get tickets and watch the memories be made between father and son, that honestly 10 years prior I could have never predicted would happen. Seeing those memories transpire brought me so much joy. Regardless of win or lose, that joy was enough. Little did we know there would be more...[see comments for the rest of this story - since post to too long for a regular caption] 🤍 . . . @mariamenounos @faces_by_frenchie #glioblastoma #braincancer #cancercanknot #bostonceltics @celtics

Forever THANKFUL and GRATEFUL every day, but today on Thanksgiving my feelings of gratitude and thanks feel particularly strong. The holidays are often symbolized with spending time with family, friends and loved ones. I am particularly grateful for the people I love and all the memories we continue to be able to make. As I’ve always said, cancer has given me more than it has taken away - and one thing it has given me is the perspective of loving and hugging your loved ones and taking advantage of time with them. In my cancer journey I am thankful to have gained the perspective of cherishing all moments with loved ones, big and small. Hug, love and be present with the ones you love - for those memories and moments are all that truly matter. Today Cancer Canknot has extra Gratitude and Thanks.
